Times are changing: 100 additional trains per week from this Monday

Times are changing: 100 additional trains per week from this Monday: Class 707 Cannon Street

  • Southeastern to introduce new timetable from Monday 11th December
  • 100 additional trains and thousands of extra seats across Metro, Mainline and High Speed services
  • Part of Southeastern’s drive to provide a better, more reliable and sustainable railway

Customers across the Southeastern network are reminded to check their timetable this weekend, ahead of the introduction of a new timetable on Monday morning.

The improvements are based on feedback from customers, stakeholders and analysis of customers' travel patterns across south east London, Kent and East Sussex.

Overall, the changes will see more of Southeastern’s ‘City Beam’ trains in operation as well as 100 additional services throughout the week – with improvements across Southeastern’s Metro, Mainline and High Speed services.

Steve White, Southeastern’s Managing Director, said:

“We're absolutely committed to providing a better, more reliable and sustainable railway across south east London, Kent and East Sussex. Our new timetable will be introduced this Monday and is the result of analysis of customer journeys as well as detailed feedback from customers and stakeholders across our Metro, Mainline and High Speed services.

“As a result we'll be providing more trains and more seats in London, the Medway Towns and North and East Kent. Customers can check their timetable now on the Southeastern website or by using our online journey planner.”

The main changes include:

In the Metro area:

  • More City Beam trains in service on weekdays and at weekends, providing a more modern, air-conditioned environment and specifically targeted to the busiest services, providing additional space where it’s most required
  • Additional morning peak time trains in the Metro area targeting areas to reduce overcrowding
  • Four additional morning peak services from Albany Park
  • A better spread of departure times for Hayes to Charing Cross services

On Mainline services:

  • An additional fast service in the morning peak period from Maidstone East to London Charing Cross leaving at 7.43
  • An additional service in the morning peak period from Ashford International to London Cannon Street leaving at 6.44

On High Speed services:

Alongside the ongoing refurbishment of our High Speed train fleet, we will also introduce additional services to reinstate a half hourly service on weekdays between St Pancras and Faversham

  • From St Pancras to Faversham between 07:20 and 20:20
  • From Faversham to St Pancras between 05.00 to 18.02

This timetable supports our growing railway, but we recognise these changes will not address all feedback from all stakeholders. As such, we are planning further improvements to our timetable in June next year and we look forward to sharing more details of these in the New Year.

Full details of the changes are below:

Metro services

Sidcup line

We’re introducing an additional service in the morning peak: the 06:31 Crayford-Charing Cross service calling all stations via Sidcup and Lewisham, then London Bridge and Waterloo East.

This means the 05:55 Gillingham to Charing Cross service will run non-stop from New Eltham to London Bridge, with intermediate stops being covered by the train above.

Early morning services from Crayford to Charing Cross will stop additionally at Albany Park - the 05:26, 05:55, 06:25 and 06:55 services.

‘Rounder’ services

An additional ‘rounder’ service running at 08:04 from Cannon Street-Cannon Street via Greenwich and Sidcup, calling at all stations except Lewisham.

The 07:26 New Cross-Cannon Street service via Sidcup and Greenwich will start back from Cannon Street at 07:15, calling at London Bridge, creating a full ‘rounder’ service.

Hayes line

The 07:44 Hayes-Charing Cross service will run later at 07:50 to better spread the departures from Hayes.

Current departures around this time are at 07:30, 07:38, 07:44 and 08:00.

From 10 December, these services will run at 07:30, 07:38, 07:50 and 08:00.

Mainline services

Maidstone East line

An additional fast service in the morning peak departing Maidstone East at 07:43 and arriving at Charing Cross at 08:47, calling at West Walling, Borough Green and Wrotham, Otford, Swanley, London Bridge and Waterloo East.

Paddock Wood line

An additional service in the morning peak departing Ashford at 06:44 arriving at Cannon Street at 07:58, calling at Headcorn, Staplehurst, Paddock Wood, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and London Bridge.

High speed services

Highspeed via Faversham

We’re reinstating a half hourly service during the off peak on weekdays between St Pancras and Faversham to support growth in leisure travel.

The additional trains will run half hourly:

  • From St Pancras-Faversham between 07:20 – 20:20.
  • From Faversham-St Pancras between 05:00 – 18:02.

Class 707 City Beam introduction

By the end of the year 28 out of 30 Class 707 City Beam trains will be introduced. The final two of these trains will enter service with Southeastern by June 2024.

The introduction of new Class 707 ‘City Beam’ trains to the network means that a number of ‘Networkers’ dating from the 1990s have been removed from service. These trains will be placed in storage when not needed by Southeastern.
