Southeastern trains coming to a Monopoly board near you

Southeastern trains coming to a Monopoly board near you: Mitchell Jukes, Mr Monopoly and Kirstin John

A brand-new official Monopoly: Whitstable and Herne Bay Edition game - featuring the great and good of the region, including Southeastern - is now available in shops.

The board - which sees bespoke property spaces and cards – hit the shops earlier today, following a formal launch this morning in Herne Bay.

At the launch Mr Monopoly officially declared Whitstable and Herne Bay as ‘Passing Go’.

More than 30 landmarks organisations and charities from Whitstable and Herne Bay appear in the game. Southeastern features, quite fittingly, between squares celebrating Whitstable’s famous Squeeze Gut Alley and oyster festival.

When it was announced last year that the region is getting its very own version of the world’s most popular board game, the public was invited to send in suggestions for landmarks and organisations to feature in the game.

Nikki Causer, Head of Marketing and Commercial Partnerships at Southeastern, said:

"Southeastern could not be more pleased to be a part of this brand-new edition of Monopoly featuring Whitstable and Herne Bay. As the connective train line for customers travelling to these popular coastal destinations, it’s exciting to have Southeastern featured in the game.

“Monopoly is such a family favourite, and we can’t wait for local residents and visitors to explore this unique edition and see some of Kent’s most loved landmarks take centre stage”.

John Keen-Tomlinson, Custom Games Executive at Winning Moves UK, added:

“We have been wonderfully spoilt with choices when putting this Monopoly board together. We produce official Monopoly games based on places all over the world, including in recent years, Palm Beach, Dubai, Phuket and The Hamptons. Now Whitstable and Herne Bay have joined the world’s Monopoly elite!”.

The game is themed in sets from tourism to heritage, hotels to shopping - and more, all to reflect the history and vibrancy of the region. Three charities star too. They are Wildwood Trust, Revival Kent and the Umbrella Centre.

The customised game sees leading local landmarks like Whitstable Harbour, Herne Bay Pier, the Tankerton Slopes and Wildwood Trust, who officially hosted this morning’s launch. In addition to the bespoke squares, the Chance and Community Chest cards are customised too. One card rewards players by advancing them to Herne Bay Pier, whilst another penalises players for allowing their lunch to be stolen by a seagull!

Monopoly is 90 years old this year and all year the makers Hasbro are celebrating. The new Monopoly: Whitstable and Herne Bay Edition has been timed for release as part of these 90th anniversary celebrations - as well being launched to coincide with Easter 2025. After Christmas, Easter is the most popular time of the year for families to play Monopoly.

Winning Moves UK, an official Monopoly maker, has produced the brand-new MONOPOLY: Whitstable and Herne Bay Edition board game, under license from Hasbro, a leading toy and game company.

The MONOPOLY: Whitstable and Herne Bay Edition is now available to buy at leading stores, as well as extensively online - including at: https://winningmoves.co.uk/products/whitstable-and-herne-bay-board-game
