Southeastern launches new parking system for simpler and easier ways to pay

Southeastern launches new parking system for simpler and easier ways to pay: car parking-2

  • Changes to parking payment options introduced from Monday 24th February
  • This means parking at Southeastern stations will be quicker and easier as customers no longer need to return to their vehicle to 'pay and display' their ticket
  • Enabled by the introduction of Automatic Number Plate Recognition technology
  • Part of a £1million investment to improve the customer experience, safety and security

Starting Monday 24th February, parking at Southeastern stations will be quicker and easier as customers will no longer need to 'pay and display' their parking ticket.

Until now, customers who chose to pay for their parking at the ticket office or vending machine needed to return to their vehicle, before boarding the train, to display their parking ticket. The changes mean customers can instead buy their parking at the same time and be on their way.

Customers who are already paying via APCOA or over the phone can continue to do so and will not notice any changes to their payment.

The minority of customers who currently pay for their parking at the ticket office will instead need to use one of the following options:

  • Using the Ticket Vending Machine (TVM) at the station - you can pay by cash at most machines alongside card, Apple Pay or Google Pay
  • Calling 01895 262122 or texting 07860 006000 quoting the Location Code which can be found on the signs within the car park
  • Visiting apcoaconnect.com
  • Scanning the QR code located on the signs within the car park
  • Downloading the APCOA Connect app

The new ANPR system is being delivered in phases starting with changes to payment methods from Monday 24 February. The full ANPR system will be fully operational at the 42 selected stations by the end of March.

Alicia Andrews, Commercial Director at Southeastern, said:

“We are continuing to invest in our stations and our car parks to make it simpler, easier and more welcoming to travel by train.

“Over the coming weeks, will be switching on the ANPR system at 42 stations across our network but changes to payment options will be in place at all Southeastern stations from today.

"This means all customers can immediately make use of the simpler and more convenient payment options available and instead of returning to their vehicle to ‘pay and display’ everyone can simply pay for their parking at the same time as their ticket and be on their way.

"The majority of customers who already pay via APCOA or over the phone can continue to do so and will not notice any changes to parking arrangements.

“Posters and leaflets have been in place at stations for the last few weeks and the changes come into effect on Monday 24th February. We would encourage customers who have questions to read the information in our stations, speak to a Southeastern colleague or visit our website to find out more.”

The introduction of ANPR at Southeastern car parks was paused last year so most TVMs could be upgraded to allow customers to pay for their parking with cash. A few stations cannot accept cash for parking payments and are listed on the Southeastern website along with alternative payment options.

Stations which are not listed below will not be using ANPR but in order to provide a standard and consistent approach across our network, the same changes to payment options will apply and enforcement at these car parks will continue to be provided by patrols, as it is today.
