Positive storytelling through educational videos will help Network Rail and Southeastern work together to create a cleaner, greener and more socially responsible region, resilient to climate change
Network Rail and Southeastern have partnered with Earth Cubs, which uses the power of positive storytelling and entertainment to make planet-saving exciting, entertaining and achievable, to launch new educational videos for children aged between 3 and 11, focusing on sustainability.
The video can be used by teachers among a suite of materials available online as a learning resource for tackling some of the more complex subjects that children may not be familiar with.
Network Rail’s Southern Region and Southeastern have been working together since 2022 to combine their sustainability strategies and focus on ways they can work together to create a cleaner, greener, more socially responsible region that is resilient to climate change.
The two organisations' commitment to reducing waste, pollution and carbon and increasing biodiversity and community engagement is captured through this fun video, hoping children will develop an interest in both sustainability and the railway.
Victoria Raggio, Environmental Specialist at Southeastern said:
“We know travelling by train is already the most sustainable and environmentally friendly way to get around, particularly on our all-electric railway. But, we are always keen to do more and try new and innovative ways of inspiring our young people and educating them about the importance of sustainable rail travel and its environmental benefits.
“We are delighted to be teaming up with Earth Cubs and continuing our joint working with Network Rail to bring these fantastic educational tools to teachers, parents, carers and children and make what can be a complicated or scary subject, that little bit easier and less intimidating.”
Kathleen O’Malley, Social Value Manager at Network Rail said:
“The bold animated style that The Geezer Rats bring will engage young children who may have yet to take their own first railway adventure. This fantastic new video will help kids learn why the train is so much better than taking the car in a fun way.
“We’re on a mission to educate and inform everyone about the benefits of rail travel. From a more relaxed journey to faster travel times and most importantly, it being better for the environment, we believe train travel is the most sustainable and fun way to explore and commute across the country.”
Toby Hunt, Chief Executive Officer at Earth Cubs said:
“Entertainment is the best way to educate kids about important global topics. Vibrant cartoons, great footage and memorable songs, help kids engage and care about green travel choices and safety around railways.
“We have a fast growing global audience and our schools network. We are passionate about working with mission aligned organisations such as Network Rail to highlight the incredible work they are doing.”
