Most routes open as usual as Southeastern gets you home for Christmas

Most routes open as usual as Southeastern gets you home for Christmas: A VIP passenger at Maidstone West

  • Most routes will be open as usual throughout the festive period
  • Some ticket restrictions will be lifted
  • Passengers encouraged to check their entire journey as major engineering work is taking place elsewhere

Southeastern and Network Rail are making it easier to travel by train this Christmas with no major line closures in Kent.

Most routes will be open as usual throughout the festive period, and some ticket restrictions will be lifted to encourage more people to ditch the car.

Off-peak fares will apply every day between 27 December and 1 January inclusive.

Some operators are impacted by engineering work, including Thameslink services through central London, and customers are encouraged to check their full journey.

Julian Moosai, Southeastern's Head of Service Delivery, said:

"Most of our railway is open as usual over Christmas to make it easier for people to get home or to visit family and friends. Off-peak fares will apply every day between 27 December and 1 January.

"We’ve recently celebrated some record-breaking post-pandemic days for the number of passengers using Southeastern – and with one train removing up to 500 cars from the roads, taking our trains is one of the most environmentally sustainable ways to travel.”
