It’s back! Southeastern invites community projects to apply for grant funding

It’s back! Southeastern invites community projects to apply for grant funding: Customer and Community Improvement Front

  • Southeastern is launching the third instalment of the Customer and Communities Improvement Fund
  • Charities, organisations and community groups can apply for up to £50,000 for good causes in their area
  • 24 projects have already been supported with over £500,000 of grant funding in last two years

Southeastern is today, (Friday 31 October) opening a new round of funding to support good causes in the communities it serves.

Since its launch in 2024, the Customer and Communities Improvement Fund (CCIF) has awarded over £500,000 to 24 incredible projects across the south east of England. From supporting missing people to return home and holding sports events for young people to reduce anti-social behaviour, these initiatives have fostered safer, healthier and more resilient communities.

In June, Southeastern and Network Rail Kent Route combined under a single leadership team to form South Eastern Railway and our integrated railway is now inviting funding applications for projects to be delivered between April 2026 and March 2027.

Charities, organisations, and community groups are encouraged to apply for grants between £1,000 and £50,000.

Damian Testa, Head of Public Affairs at Southeastern, said:

“I’m delighted to announce we are opening a new application round of our Customer and Communities Improvement Fund after a phenomenal response last time. We look forward to receiving more exciting and innovative proposals that will help transform lives in the communities we serve.

“Southeastern was the first train operator in the UK to launch a Social Mobility Action Plan, and we hope to be able to support more community-driven efforts which help reduce economic and social inequality within the communities we serve.”

A successful bid should clearly demonstrate how the project will achieve one or more of the following goals:

  • Promote local skills and employment
  • Build healthier, safer, and more resilient communities
  • Ensure a sustainable railway
  • Promote inclusion and diversity

James Hensman, CEO of Youth Unity CIC said:

“The CCIF funding has enabled us to deliver a dedicated mentoring service in partnership with the Southeast Safeguarding Team, focusing on reducing antisocial behaviour and supporting vulnerable individuals using the train line between Gravesend and Greenwich.

“Through this project, we’ve been able to identify and engage with young people at risk, helping them transform vulnerable situations into positive pathways toward employment, qualifications, and improved wellbeing.

“We’re incredibly grateful for Southeastern Railway’s support and proud of the lasting impact this partnership continues to make.”
