Southeastern is offering free travel for serving military personnel and veterans to attend Remembrance services this weekend.
Serving military personnel, veterans and Royal British Legion fundraisers attending the Remembrance Sunday ceremony at the Cenotaph, or any other Remembrance service, can travel for free on Sunday, 10 November.
The offer is open to serving military personnel in uniform or in possession of a current MOD90 Ministry of Defence-issued identity card.
Veterans travelling on these dates will need to show a Veterans Railcard, Veterans Oyster card, MOD-issued Veterans ID or other appropriate proof of service.
Wing Commander Alex South RAF (Retired), Southeastern's Head of HR Services and Armed Forces Covenant lead, said:
"This is a poignant time of year for service personnel and their families and provides an opportunity to remember and give thanks for the dedication and sacrifice made by our armed forces.
"We are proud to stand with veterans and serving military personnel and offer free travel to Remembrance services across the south-east."
On Wednesday, 6 November, Southeastern colleagues gathered at the Dover Marine War Memorial to remember employees of the South Eastern and Chatham Railway and Southern Railway who died in the two world wars.
The service was held at the former railway station at the Port of Dover’s Eastern Dock Cruise Terminal 1, which played a vital role in the movement of troops and munitions by rail.
Southeastern's Armed Forces Network co-ordinated a ceremony attended by representatives from the Port of Dover, ex-service organisations, local authorities, clergy, the Dover Society, other civic groups, together with Regular and Reserve personnel.
The British Torch of Remembrance, that symbolises Anglo-Belgian fraternity forged through peace and war, was carried by a cadet detachment from the Duke of York's Royal Military School.
Dylis George, Chaplain to Southeastern, added:
"Remembrance Sunday is a profound way for us to honour those who sacrificed their lives to protect the freedom we cherish today. This act of remembrance unites us in gratitude. It connects the past generations with our daily commitment to serve each other and our communities with integrity and respect."
Southeastern's Armed Forces Network brings together colleagues who serve, or have served, and families of those in the Armed Forces.
It's a key part of Southeastern's commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant and works to highlight opportunities in rail, while supporting former service personnel who join the industry.
