Free travel for Virgin Money London Marathon runners

We're running extra services to the Virgin Money London Marathon start lines at Greenwich, Maze Hill and Blackheath on Sunday 24 April.

Marathon entrants are also being offered free travel from Charing Cross, Waterloo East, Cannon Street, London Bridge and Victoria stations to the start lines. Rather than purchase a ticket, runners simply need to show their race number to a member of Southeastern staff at the gate line to claim their free travel to their start line.

Those travelling to Blackheath for the Blue Start should catch a train from Victoria, Charing Cross and Waterloo East, no trains from London Bridge will call at Blackheath. Runners should travel from Cannon Street and London Bridge for Greenwich for the Red Start and for Maze Hill for the Green Start.

Services to and from Charing Cross and Waterloo East are not stopping at London Bridge due to the rebuilding of the station as part of the Government-funded £6.5 billion Thameslink Programme.

At London Bridge platforms one and two are predicted to be busy on the day with a queuing system in place to help manage the extra flow of passengers. Runners for Greenwich and Maze Hill may instead chose to travel from Cannon Street where mainline and Underground stations are now open seven days a week.

David Statham, Managing Director, Southeastern, said: “We want to make it as easy as possible for runners and supporters to get into the capital for this incredible event which is why we are running extra trains from Kent and south east London, and offering runners free travel from some of our London terminals to the start lines.

“We’re also increasing services from London to Greenwich, Maze Hill and Blackheath. These stations and London Bridge will be especially busy, so we recommend people allow plenty of time to make their journeys. We wish everyone taking part the best of luck, 29 of our employees are running this year and we’ll be supporting them and everyone else involved from the sidelines.”
