Early shut down of services on Christmas Eve

With the festive season soon to start, Southeastern is seeking to remind people travelling on Christmas Eve to make sure they know the time of their last train home.

With Christmas Eve on Saturday this year, the vast majority of passengers will have already headed home to their families after work on Friday, December 23.

But those using the railway on Saturday, December 24, will need to check train times as, like most train operators, services begin shutting down earlier than normal – from 8pm onwards.

On December 24, Network Rail will also begin major engineering work to improve the railway over the Christmas and New Year period, meaning major changes to Southeastern services.

The first major impact of this begins at the beginning of service on Christmas Eve as there are no trains into or out of Charing Cross, Waterloo East, St John’s and New Cross.

Instead, services will be diverted into Blackfriars and London Victoria and only Greenwich line trains will run into and out of Cannon Street station.

Hasting line trains will start from London Bridge - diverted via East Croydon - and no trains will run between Sevenoaks and Tonbridge.

There are also major changes to services over the rest of the Christmas and New Year period.
